The Totally Jerkin' Soundtrack To 'Josie And The Pussycats' Is Coming Back And We Need It

Universal

If you were a teen in the early 2000s, chances are you almost definitely heard a lot about 2001's Josie and the Pussycats.

Universal

Based on the Archie Comics rock band of the same name, the movie focused on the titular band's struggles not only to succeed, but also to stop a conspiracy to send subliminal messages through music! It was pretty much the perfect parody of both music movies and teen comedies, and it's as awesome now as it was back then.

Universal

Of course, what would be a movie abut a rock band be without some killer music to go along with it? Thankfully, Josie and the Pussycats had an absolutely rockin' soundtrack, full of awesome grrrrl-rock from the band itself.

Universal

They were performed by Letters to Cleo singer Kay Hanley, with the three lead actresses from the film adding in backup vocals. It even featured contributions from artists like Bif Naked, Counting Crows' Adam Dunst, and Fountains of Wayne instrumentalist Adam Schlesinger.

Despite the fact that the movie didn't find a lot of love either critically or financially, the soundtrack actually went Gold, selling over 500,000 copies! Unfortunately, nowadays the soundtrack is notoriously hard to find, being out of print and also not having been released for digital purchase.

Universal

However, if you didn't get a chance to buy it back then, don't fret, because it's being re-released in the most perfect way possible.

Seriously, get your wallets ready for this one...

Mondo Collectibles, an internet-based company that specializes in awesome merchandise based on cult-hit movies, has announced that they'll be adding their own special touch to the soundtrack of Josie and the Pussycats!

Mondo

The album will be pressed on vinyl painted in purple leopard print, to match the movie's aesthetic to a T! Not only that, but in honor of the release, Alamo Drafhouse will be hosting a special event at Los Angeles' Ace Hotel.

Universal

In a press release from Mondo, they detail;

"The epic reunion screening tailor-made for superfans of the smart, funny and legitimately rocking 2001 film will unspool at LA’s famed Ace Hotel. In person, it’s the film’s brilliant co-directors/writers Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan, along with Josie and Alan M. themselves, stars Rachael Leigh Cook and Gabriel Mann. PLUS singer Kay Hanley, front woman of ‘90s band Letters to Cleo and Josie’s singing voice in the film (no wonder that soundtrack is so killer).

Before the film, Kay and the band will *actually* rock the house with a set of JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS songs. You read that right. Yes, this is real life. And, after the credits roll that night, the whole gang will be live on stage answering your burning questions."

Universal

Tickets for the event are on sale at the Ace Hotel's website, and if you love this movie as much as we do, you'd better get going!

Share with anybody you know who loves this awesome movie!
