10 Times Antonio Banderas Was So Badass We Couldn't Help But Love Him

Columbia / TriStar

Though he's gone back to making smaller movies the last few years, there's no denying that in the 90s and early 2000s, Antonio Banderas was one of our resident movie badasses. He always managed to be equal parts charming and awesome, and in these 10 movies, we can still find a good reason to watch them again.

Interview With The Vampire (1994)

While he plays third billing to Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise, Banderas' Armand is an interesting character with his own badass streak to match the others.

Desperado (1995)

As the Mariachi, Antonio takes on hordes of drug cartel members an does it with style, not to mention a guitar case full of weapons.

Assassins (1995)

Antonio takes on Sly Stallone as a rival assassin to him, and the results are nothing but explosive.

The Mask of Zorro (1998)

The role we all know and love him for, Antonio's take on the Spanish swashbuckler is nothing short of amazing. The flirtatious sword duel between him and Catherine Zeta-Jones is especially great.

The 13th Warrior (1999)

Playing the lead in this awesome Michael Crichton adaptation, Antonio joins a group of vikings to help defend their homeland from invading tribesmen. It's a damn fun watch.

Spy Kids (2001)

While not the lead character, Banderas' entire role is playing one of the world's greatest super spies, making all the crazy stuff he gets up to look effortlessly cool.

Once Upon A Time In Mexico (2003)

Returning to the El Mariachi role he popularized in Desperado, Antonio again regales us with songs before filling his enemies full of bullets.

Shrek 2

It may just be his voice, but playing Puss in Boots allows Antonio to go from menacing to hilarious to adorable, sometimes all in the span of a single scene!

Machete Kills

He's a Canadian truck driver who has to tangle with Lady Gaga before ultimately being shot by a bunch of rednecks. Maybe not his most badass turn, but pretty funny.

The Expendables 3

He's an old thief that comes out of retirement to help out Sylvester Stallone, and he's pretty hilarious.
