A 'Hocus Pocus' Sequel Is Coming, But It's Not A Movie

It could easily be argued that the single most popular Halloween movie of the 90s is Hocus Pocus. Sure, you've got your Ernest Scared Stupids and your Addams Familys etc etc, but come on, is there a more iconic trio of spooky characters than the Sanderson sisters? I don't think so!

Disney

Released in 1993 by Disney, Hocus Pocus follows three witches (played by Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker) who are resurrected on Halloween night and prowl the land for children, only to be stopped by a teenage couple who catch onto their evil plan.

Disney

The movie is an absolute cult-classic that's become a staple of Halloween for every 90s kid, and with the current wave of 90s nostalgia sweeping through the world, one question's been on every fan's lips: "when are we getting a sequel?"

Reminder: this is fake.Imgur

There's been a few hoax posters circulated about a sequel, and people react so vividly to them each time that there's clearly a demand, yet Disney's been surprisingly mum on the subject. The stars of the film have talked about the idea of coming back, and there's even apparently a Disney Channel made-for-TV remake in the works, but still no sequel.

Well, there's finally been an announcement about a sequel to Hocus Pocus, but if you're expecting another cinematic adventure starring the Sanderson sisters, don't get your hopes up: it's going to be in an upcoming book.

Disney has announced the release of the upcoming book Hocus Pocus & The All-New Sequel (subtlety doesn't seem to be their strong suit) for July 10th, which will have it out just in time for the original film's 25th anniversary.

Disney

The book, written by A.W. Jantha, will come in two parts. The first is going to be a "fresh retelling" of the plot of the original movie, likely to potentially match up with the upcoming remake.

Disney

The second part, meanwhile, will take place 25 years after the movie, with a now-married Max and Allison having to battle the Sanderson sisters again, alongside their 17-year-old daughter, Poppy.

While fans will no doubt be excited for this, it does seem like Disney's doing everything possible with the franchise except for making another movie.

What do you think? Are you excited for this book?
