Blue's Clues Reboot Announces Their New Host, And Apparently Steve Helped Pick Him

Nickelodeon

When they announced that Blue's Clues was coming back to TV, a lot of fans were thrilled. It meant that all the kids who grew up watching the classic kids show all those years ago would now have the chance to share it with there children.

I know what you're thinking, because I thought the same thing. "They wouldn't be old enough to have kids!" Well, I've got news for you, Blue's Clues started in 1996, making it 22 years old. That would make all the kids watching it in their mid-to-late twenties now, potentially starting families of their own.

Nickelodeon obviously realized this demographic is keen to share the things from their childhood, so they announced that Blue would be coming back again, but Steve wouldn't be joining her.

The network announced that they were bringing the iconic kid's show back in the spring with all new episodes and a new look, but some things weren't changing.

“The format of the show works pretty well, and I don’t think they are going to mess with it that much," President of Nickelodeon Group Cyma Zarghami said in the announcement.

But the one thing that is definitely changing is that neither of the former hosts of Blue's Clues would be returning.

“We are going to pass the torch,” Producer Angela Santomero said. “What’s going to be more important than who that person is is that they can really connect to the home viewers.”

We all worried that without Steve the show wouldn't be the same. We all saw what happened when Joe took over, right?

Well, Steve Burns himself actually got to help in the selection process, and today Nickelodeon revealed who will be dawning the rugby shirt and having a seat in the 'thinking chair.'

The new host is a relative newcomer in the TV world, but a Broadway regular. Joshua Dela Cruz is only 23 years old, but he's ready to hang out with a cartoon dog and solve mysteries. He will be on the new show that's now called Blue's Clues & You.

"The search for the new host of Blue’s Clues & You was no small task, but we knew as soon as we met Josh that he was the perfect choice," Shelly Sumpter Gillyard from Nickelodeon said. "From his genuineness to his comedic timing and range, there was no doubt that he could carry the show on for the next generation of preschoolers.”

Burns was able to help find a new host that would be and he gives Dela Cruz his full support.

“I had the great honor of being a part of the search for the new host, and I give Josh two thumbs up! He can definitely fill my shoes, and the rugby shirt,” Burns said, even though he had previously suggested that he'd love to return as the host.

Dela Cruz actually opened up about what it was like to meet Steve, or more accurately, be "star struck" by the host.

"I was star struck, but at the same time immediately felt comfortable with him. He was just so generous with his time and with his energy. It was a huge, huge moment for me to meet the person that I was watching on TV growing up, and to find out that he was so cool."

Blue's Clues meant a lot to the young actor when he was growing up. "For me, Blue's Clues was about communicating. It kind of taught me to be curious and to ask questions and to be silly, and the Mail Time song is kind of what got me singing."

He's most excited about finally getting his own handy dandy notebook, but he said that "it may not be the way you remember."
