Ryan Reynolds Will Play Detective Pikachu And You Know What, I Quit

You know Ryan Reynolds, right? The guy from Just Friends, The Proposal, Deadpool, and Blake Lively's Instagram?

The Canadian actor's fame has been steadily increasing as people began to realize that he's not just a pretty face, but he's also hilarious.

Reynolds's performance in Deadpool earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor, and it's considered his most popular role. The comedy was fairly raunchy in the film, so it's probably not something he'll want his daughters to be watching any time soon.

However, his new film might be something more up their alley. Although, his little girls probably won't recognize him.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Reynolds is slated to play Pikachu in the new live-action Pokémon movie scheduled for 2018. The movie is called Detective Pikachu, and Reynolds will be lending his talents as the titular character.

The movie will be based off the video game, wherein Detective Pikachu has a knack for finding things (a great quality for a detective). Justice Smith, who will be appearing in the upcoming Jurassic World will also be in the film.

The story revolves around Smith's character, whose father is kidnapped. Smith must enlist the help of Detective Pikachu to find out who took his dad. We'd give you more information, but everything is pretty much being kept under wraps.

The script is being written by Alex Hirsch, a writer on Gravity Falls, and Nicole Perlman, the screenwriter for Guardians of the Galaxy and the upcoming Captain Marvel.

If you were hoping to see Reynolds in a giant Pikachu costume, you're out of luck. Detective Pikachu will be an animated character in a live-action film. Reynolds's role will be "motion capture in nature", and he'll be lending his voice as well.
