One Of The Best Disney Characters From The 90s Will Be In The New 'DuckTales'

Disney

We've been excited about Disney's remake of DuckTales since it was first announced, and the news has only been getting better since then.

Disney

First there was the announcement of former Doctor Who leading man David Tennant as Scrooge McDuck (which he wowed the crowd with a preview of at San Diego Comic Con). Then they announced that our favorite Broadway god, Lin-Manuel Miranda, would be joining the cast as Gizmoduck, and we started getting REALLY excited.

Well, it turns out that Disney wasn't done with the surprises yet. At their panel at San Diego Comic Con 2017, the cast and crew of the show revealed some of the extended cast that will be joining the show as well!

Disney

Included in the preview was concept art of longtime DuckTales rivals The Beagle Boys (we're curious to see if Margo Martindale will be able to top the late June Foray's performance as Ma Beagle), as well as the witch Magica De Spell, all of which return from the original show.

The biggest announcement, however, was that DuckTales will be featuring the return of one of Disney's best characters from the 90s, one who wasn't on the original show but rather had his own show at the same time.

Disney

That's right folks, the one and only Darkwing Duck will be joining the gang!

During the concept art montage shown at DuckTales' panel at Comic Con, it was revealed that not only is Darkwing joining the cast, but they also showed off some art for his iconic motorcycle, the Ratcatcher.

Disney

They also showed off concept art of Darkwing's best-known villains; the electricity-obsessed Megavolt and the annoying jester Quackerjack, who were later confirmed for appearances as well!

Disney

It's not entirely surprising that DW is entering the series, as the two always had a link. Launchpad McQuack, Scrooge McDuck's hired pilot and tech expert, was a regular character on Darkwing Duck as well, serving as Darkwing's best friend and confidant.

Disney

We're obviously very excited. Darkwing Duck was a great take on superheroes shows from the 90s, featuring a lead character driven by ego and a desire for fame more than any actual sense of heroism. The big question now will be if we can expect DW to get his own series again.

DuckTales will premiere with a 1-hour special on August 12, and the series proper will debut in September.

Are you excited for the return of Darkwing Duck? Share with anyone else who loves the character!
