The "Mary Poppins" Sequel Looks Sweeter Than A Spoonful Of Sugar

"Winds in the east, mist coming in. Like somethin' is brewin' and bout to begin..."

That's right, Disney has just released the latest images for Mary Poppins Returns, a sequel to the classic family film of the 60s.

The movie has been in the works since Disney announced the project back in 2015, but filming officially began in February of 2017.

With an array of celebrity faces already featured in the promos, we're expecting nothing less than a show-stopping musical extravaganza that promises to be practically perfect in every way!

There are some familiar characters that can be seen in the photos so far, and we've found out the early threads of a plot line.

However, it appears that the sequel's story will be much darker than the upbeat original.

A preview of the story shows us that things have not been the easiest for the family since Mary Poppins last saw them.

The plot focuses on Michael Banks and his new family, 20 years after the events of the first movie. Set in the Depression, the family has just gone through a terrible loss of some kind, and it seems that one magical nanny felt it was the right time to check in on her little ones.

Michael isn't alone though, his sister Jane Banks will be there to help keep an eye on him. Though it appears that they may have some trouble remembering the events of their youth.

In a private showing of a trailer last year, some sites reported the siblings found it difficult to believe this was the real Mary Poppins.

"'Those things when we were younger, they didn't really happen?' Jane says.

'No,' Michael replied.

'Ridiculous,' Jane says... while behind them, Mary is floating up the banister. "

The sequel also sees the return of actor Dick Van Dyke, who not only played the lovable chimney sweep Bert, but the old bank proprietor, Mr. Dawes. He returns to play the son of the decrepit banker who dies after a charitable change of heart at the end of the original.

The movie is set to be released Christmas Day, 2018, plenty of time to go learn how to fly a kite!
