Red Hot Chili Peppers' Bassist, Flea, Teaches KoKo the Gorilla How To Play Guitar

Ever since he read the book KoKo's Kitten in the '80s Red Hot Chili Peppers' Flea has wanted to meet KoKo the gorilla. Finally, this August, he got the chance to sit down with this incredible lady primate and play some music.

In this awesome video, Flea sits on the ground with a bass and plays a few notes for KoKo. She in intrigued and immediately grabs the guitar to take her turn.

She holds the guitar like he did - but she's a lefty - and strums on the strings. Amazed, Flea says " You play the bass so well, KoKo!" It's clear that the two of them are loving every moment together!

"This is just the greatest thing that could ever happen,"  writes the 53-year-old bassist, "This is the day that I will never forget in my life."

KoKo lives at The Gorilla Foundation, a place known for its groundbreaking communication research with gorillas. Probably the most skilled animal conversationalist of our generation,  Koko is fluent in sign language and can understand almost 2,000 words of spoken English. She has a gentle, sensitive side and like humans, she keeps pets - a rare trait for a primate.
