John Travolta Finally Reveals His Thoughts On The Craziest 'Grease' Fan Theory

Do you remember that insane fan theory that was circulating last year about the iconic classic Grease? The one where people think that Sandy died before the movie even started.

Paramount Pictures

Yeah.

I'm not kidding. People think that the entire movie is based around the fact that Sandy actually DID drown in the ocean while hanging out with Danny, and that the entire plot of the story was a crazy dream.

Parmount Pictures

Here's what the fan theory says:

"During the song 'Summer Nights,' Danny and Sandy recount how they first met and started a summer fling.

"The line, 'I saved her life, she nearly drowned,' suggests that Sandy actually did drown and the whole movie is an elaborate musical fantasy due to the lack of oxygen getting to her brain. As she drowned, her brain deprived of oxygen, she had a vivid coma fantasy involving her summer fling Danny, where they shared a magical year of high school together.

"The visions get increasingly outlandish as time passes, until finally, as Danny desperately tries to resuscitate her on the beach, she sees herself flying into Heaven in her dying moments. Which would explain the movie's oddly surreal ending, which sees the couple fly off into the sky in a convertible."

Paramount Pictures

It's a lot to take, even for the internet. People were freaking out about it when these theories started popping up, but now someone has finally taken it to the top.

John Travolta, AKA Danny Zuko himself, was asked about this crazy theory, and surprisingly enough he was pretty supportive of it.

AP

"I love it, imaginations are awesome. These things are bound to happen to something timeless like this. It's so fun."

But he was quick to clarify that it was not at all what the writers intended.

Paramount Pictures

"I could have fun with it. But I know the writers of 'Grease', and I was around in the original days. I can't take it too far."

When Olivia Newton John was asked about the theory a few years ago, she thought the whole thing was hilarious.

"I thought it was hilarious. But I thought, if that's true, we were the first zombie musical! I think we look pretty good considering."

Paramount Pictures

As for the flying car, even she thought it was a little bit outlandish.

"I wondered what it was about but I didn't question it. It kept people interested!"

Honestly, if the movie didn't have the part with the flying car we wouldn't have these questions, but I guess it doesn't hurt to speculate, right?

Paramount Pictures

What do you think of the "Sandy is dead" theory? Is it completely insane or does it make some sense?

It is the 40th anniversary of Grease this year, which is great because even after all this time we are still talking about it. It's just such a classic!

The next generation is getting in on the conversation now, with people debating over which one is better, Grease or Grease 2.
