<div><p>Children of the 80s and 90s almost definitely remember the old, top-down, 2D versions of <em>The Legend of Zelda</em>. Before <em>Ocarina of Time</em> brought the franchise into the world of 3D and changed the landscape of gaming forever, games like <em>The Legend of Zelda</em> for the NES and <em>A Link to the Past</em> on the Super Nintendo gave us quirky, colorful adventures seen from a bird's eye view.</p><div><figure><amp-img src="https://legacy.throwbacks.com/content/images/2017/06/legend_of_zelda_nes_gameplay_screenshot_8.png" title="" alt="" height="9" width="16" layout="responsive"></amp-img><figcaption class="op-vertical-center"><cite>Nintendo Legend</cite></figcaption></figure></div><p></p><div align="center" data-freestar-ad="__336x280 __789x280" id="throwbacks_articles_incontent _1"> </div><p></p><p>The nostalgia factor for these games is strong. While Nintendo still occasionally releases a <em>Zelda</em> game in this style (like 2012's <em>A Link Between Worlds</em> for the 3DS), they've stuck mostly to their 3D output, leaving independent developers to take us back to the oldschool kind of gameplay we still love about older entries in the series.</p><div><figure><amp-img src="https://legacy.throwbacks.com/content/images/2017/06/ss_f222599812c66e590ef7e362cda75bb67559b3c9-1920x1080.jpg" title="" alt="" height="9" width="16" layout="responsive"></amp-img><figcaption class="op-vertical-center">...Yeah, that'll do nicely.<cite>Steam</cite></figcaption></figure></div><p></p><p>The latest to take on this kind of style is Finji's game <em>Tunic</em>, and it looks amazing. Teased a while ago as <em>Secret Legend</em>, it was revealed with its name change and new gameplay trailer at this year's E3 PC Gaming Show.</p><div><figure><amp-img src="https://legacy.throwbacks.com/content/images/2017/06/ss_2958b2f2a9c58a807e65ca03ec7a185c1dd4a2fe-1920x1080.jpg" title="" alt="" height="9" width="16" layout="responsive"></amp-img><figcaption class="op-vertical-center">Look how cute the character is!<cite>Steam</cite></figcaption></figure></div><p></p><div align="center" data-freestar-ad="__336x280 __789x280" id="throwbacks_articles_video"> </div><p></p><p>While not much has been revealed about the story, we do know that the player controls an adorable, sword-wielding fox who explores a fantasy world from an isometric perspective. The visuals are an interesting combination of lush and blocky, making the game look like a popup book come to life.</p><div><figure><amp-img src="https://legacy.throwbacks.com/content/images/2017/06/ss_3d870aa450a1b388eb5fcbc2d002fdb73792e3ae-1920x1080.jpg" title="" alt="" height="9" width="16" layout="responsive"></amp-img><figcaption class="op-vertical-center"><cite>Steam</cite></figcaption></figure></div><p></p><p>We also get to see a little bit of the combat in the trailer, and it too looks a lot like <em>Zelda</em> (although with the addition of a dodge-roll, like in the 3D games). The fox fights several monsters by blocking attacks with a shield and returning hits with its own sword. The whole thing ends with an encounter with a scary-looking ancient construct, reminding us of classic <em>Zelda </em>enemies like the Armos statues.</p><div><figure><amp-img src="https://legacy.throwbacks.com/content/images/2017/06/latest-cb-20100411224612.jpg" title="" alt="" height="9" width="16" layout="responsive"></amp-img><figcaption class="op-vertical-center">Screw these guys.<cite>Zelda Wiki</cite></figcaption></figure></div><p></p><p>According to <em>Tunic</em>'s <a href="http://www.tunicgame.com/" target="_blank">website</a>, the game<em> </em>is slated for a 2018 release on PC, Mac, Linux, and "consoles."
