Bill And Ted 3 Is Officially Confirmed, And They've Already Revealed What It'll Be About

The rumors have been swirling for years, but now the Bill & Ted stars have confirmed that a sequel is official happening.

On Tuesday, Alex Winter tweeted "We're tuning the air guitars" and we already know a bit about what's going to happen in the new movie!

Not only are both Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter back to step into their roles, but they aren't the only ones.

Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon have once again written the script for the new movie, which will take Bill and Ted on their third adventure.

They do have a new director, Dean Parisot, but given his past history includes Galaxy Quest, I think he can handle oddball comedies just fine.

Reeves and Winter released a joint statement to express their excitement about their team.

“We couldn’t be more excited to get the whole band back together again. Chris and Ed wrote an amazing script, and with Dean at the helm we’ve got a dream team!”

Also set to return is Bill Sader as Death, and Solomon claims there are "a few delicious cameos by people to be named another time."

What's the plot?

Well, Bill and Ted haven't managed to accomplish the musical destiny they have been told they would and according to Matheson they are having a really hard time dealing with that fact.

"We knew they couldn't have actually written the song, right, because if they'd actually written the song, then they're big stars, and they've saved the world and then the only story is they've had a falling out, and we didn't want to do that. That seemed boring to us.

"But the version where they haven't come up with it, and the pressure of that, like at 17 or 16,  you’re told you’re gonna save the world.

"And now you’re 50 and you haven’t done it. And just, the weight of that, and now they’re married, and it affects their marriages, and it affects their relationships with their kids, and it affects their everything.

"And the future actually shows up and is like 'You've got to do it right now.' That seemed kind of fun and interesting."

The stars are both now in their 50s so obviously it's a completely different dynamic than the other two movies, but I'm sure this team will make it as excellent as possible.

Winter feels like the plot will be relatable and match up with a lot of bands' experiences.

“There’s certain comparisons,” Winter told the magazine. “A rock band that never goes to the place it thought it was going to get to. Having that moment in their life of going: ‘Do we try to get there, or give up the dream?'"

It wasn't easy to figure out the story

It's taken a long time to get this new one because finding another story was a little tricky.

Surprisingly enough, even once they had their plot it was hard to find a studio to make it. Winter revealed that it took some explaining.

“The whole trajectory of getting the next one off the ground has been pretty much exactly like the experience of getting the original.

"Going to every studio, and they’re like, ‘What the eff is this?’ It’s this kind of independent spirit, and the films have an anachronistic quality to them that’s a big part of what they are, fundamentally.

"I’m really happy that this one is the same. It doesn’t feel like some stale knockoff that a studio would have immediately gone, ‘Oh, this feels right. We have rebranded very successfully.’”

The message of the movie has always been a positive one, at least according to Reeves.

"You can’t go wrong with: ‘Be excellent to each other.’ And: ‘Party on!’ I mean, it might actually be the beginning, one of the first examples of contemporary modern apocalyptic art.”

As for Winter, he is happy to reminisce about the "Ted hair".

"Ted hair was really hard to do, I have to give Keanu credit for that. Ted hair had to be kind of out at this physically impossible level.

"Like not too high, 'cause the makeup would be, 'I'll just spray it! I'll just put it up in the air,' and he's like, 'no, that's not what I want.'...

"It is kinda genius, like I do love it. I mean I had to suffer for months with him trying to get it where it needed to be. We would be waiting for camera to roll and his Ted hair would not be, and he would ask for a mirror. But when it worked, it does make you laugh your *** off."

It has been in the works for a long time

Reeves revealed that it has been a long time coming, but that both of the stars got to contribute.

"Chris and Ed came to us in 2007, with the idea of doing it and they pitches us an idea that sounded great and they were really collaborative with us which was really cool."

What is it called?

Matheson and Solomon revealed the name of the movie.

"It's called Bill & Ted Face The Music. It's like A Christmas Carol with Bill and Ted. Looking at their lives and rediscovering what they're about."

The only thing we don't know right now is when it will be released, but at least we know that it's coming up for sure!

Is this something you would want to go see?

Need a refresher on the original movie? Well, we've got everything you need, including a bunch of stuff you probably never knew before.

We all know what Keanu Reeves has been doing since the movie, but Alex Winter seems to have been a little bit harder to find. Where has he been lately?
