Seriously, why DID you have to go and make things so complicated? Avril's ode to teenage love and awkwardness was pretty emblematic of everyone's first relationships.

My Chemical Romance - "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)"

The emo phase hit a bunch of teenage girls like a ton of bricks, and this was the song that launched it for a ton of them. Gerard Way just seemed to get you in ways other people didn't.

P!nk - "Just Like A Pill"

P!nk was the epitome of angsty girl pop, and she spoke to every girl who felt different from everybody else (which of course was all of them).

You know that you definitely cried your eyes out to this when your crush went to the dance with some other chick, who you absolutely HATED...

We personally blame The O.C. for making this the soundtrack to over-dramatic tragedy, and hearing it nowadays is more unintentionally funny than angsty.
