10 Songs You Haven't Thought About Since 2005
There are some songs that we are never able to forget, no matter how much time has passed since we first heard them. Then there are the songs that seem to just vanish from our memories, even if we actually loved them at the time. Even though we haven't thought about these songs in at least 10 years, I promise that the second you hear them again you'll wonder how you ever forgot they existed.
"Absolutely (Story of a Girl)" - Nine Days
I know for a fact that as soon as you heard the line "This is the story of a girl," you immediately sang "who cried a river and drowned the whole world." I don't know how we can forget a song ever happened while still remembering all its lyrics, but here we are.
"Smile" - Vitamin C
We all remember Vitamin C, mostly because her song "Graduation" was the graduation song for pretty much everyone who graduated between 1999 and 2005 (it was either that or "Good Riddance" by Green Day). But you probably forgot about her other hit single "Smile," which was actually more successful on the charts than the song everyone remembers her for. I don't think that would put a smile on anyone's face.
"Faded" - soulDecision
soulDecision have the bad luck of not only being a one hit wonder, but also being a one hit wonder that no one remembers. At least their song is catchy.
"Case of the Ex" - Mýa
If you do remember pop star Mýa, it's probably for her part alongside Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, and Pink for the song "Lady Marmalade." But her single "Case of the Ex" was the song that made her famous, and as soon as you hear the chorus you're definitely going to remember it.
"Ocean Avenue" - Yellowcard
Considering just how many pop punk bands made it big in the early-2000s, it makes sense that there are some bands that will get overshadowed. Despite the honor of being "the pop punk band with a violin," Yellowcard's "Ocean Avenue" just wasn't enough to keep them forever burned in our memories.
But they weren't the only music group whose hit song we completely forgot...
"He Loves U Not" - Dream
Dream had a couple of hits in the early 2000s, but "He Loves U Not" was by far their most successful single. The pop group actually reunited briefly in 2015, which the world responded to by saying "um...who?"
"Holidae In" - Chingy feat. Ludacris & Snoop Dogg
If you remember rapper Chingy, chances are it's for his first single "Right Thurr," but his team-up with Ludacris and Snoop Dogg, "Holidae In" deserves a lot more love.
"Hit 'Em Up Style (Oops!)" - Blu Cantrell
Anyone who's ever been cheated on can definitely relate to Blu Cantrell's ode to getting revenge on a soon-to-be-ex. She had way more success internationally than she did in the States, which might be why you forgot about this song until just now.
"Flavor of the Weak" - American Hi-Fi
Nothing says angst like pining after someone who's dating someone who doesn't deserve them. Unfortunately for American Hi-Fi, their hit single turned out to be just the flavor of the week since most of us have already forgotten it.
"Can't Fight the Moonlight" - LeAnn Rimes
As part of her attempt to crossover from country to pop stardom, LeAnn Rimes contributed four songs and a cameo to the movie Coyote Ugly. "Can't Fight The Moonlight" is actually one of her most successful singles, but its association with Coyote Ugly, a movie that also seems to have been forgotten by most people, pretty much doomed it from the start. But you'll immediately remember all of the lyrics as soon as you hear it, so at least that's something.
