10 Movies That Represent The Real Christmas Controversy

Sure, most people choose to ring in the holidays with a classic Christmas movie, like How The Grinch Stole Christmas, The Muppet Christmas Carol, or even National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. However, the internet really likes coming up with unconventional movie suggestions, and as such, these 10 movies have become holiday favorites for plenty of people.

Read through the list and let us know if you think any of these really deserve to be called Christmas movies!

Die Hard

So it takes place at Christmas, features some characters learning some heartwarming lessons, and lots of decorations. On the other hand, MAN do a lot of people get shot.

Edward Scissorhands

The movie was released at Christmas, and we even see Edward carve out some festive ice sculptures! However, it's also dark, gothy, and sometimes kinda sad in that way we all know Tim Burton for.

Gremlins

Gizmo is given as a Christmas present, and there's tons of Christmas references throughout the movie, especially in the visuals. That being said, you also see a bunch of demonic little creatures raising hell, and some pretty grotesque gore effects.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Is this a Halloween movie? Is it a Christmas movie? Is it both? Is it something else entirely? Who the hell knows!

The movies just get more confusing from here...

Lethal Weapon

This follows much the same logic as Die Hard. It does feature Christmas quite a bit throughout the movie, but also features one of the most insane fistfights in cinema history, between Mel Gibson and Gary Busey.

Batman Returns

There's tons of Christmas imagery during Tim Burton's second Batman film, but there's also a ton of stuff that's more or less straight out of our worst nightmares (especially the design of the Penguin).

Brazil

It starts with Tiny Tim's monologue from A Christmas Carol, and Santa even shows up, but it's also a movie about bureaucracy and dystopia taken to some of their absolute most ridiculous extremes.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

It takes place at Christmas, but there's no snow, very little Christmas cheer, a ton of swearing and shooting, and the only Santas you really see are scantily-clad women in costumes.

What do you think? Are any of these real Christmas movies?
