'Mad About You' Revival In The Works And We Aren't Sure How To Feel About It

It seems like everything is up for a reboot these days, and sitcoms are no exception. The 90s seemed like it was the decade of the sitcom, with many successful and popular shows running each and every night. Of course, everyone had their favorite.

Many popular shows took place in New York City. Friends, Seinfeld, and Will & Grace all took place in the big city, making it seem like the cool place to live. There was really a show for everyone in the 90s, and one of the most popular shows is getting really close to making a comeback.

Mad About You was a huge show that ran for seven seasons. It started in 1992, following Paul Buchman and his wife Jamie as they dealt with daily life in, you guessed it, New York City. Eventually the couple have a daughter, Mabel, by the end of the series in 1999.

The show was well-loved, and was nominated for 90 awards in its run, winning 40 of them. Helen Hunt specifically won several Golden Globes and Emmy Awards over the years for her portrayal of Jamie.

After being off the air for nearly 20 years, there are now talks of it coming back! This is what we know about the potential reboot so far...

After the success of the Will & Grace revival it was only a matter of time before everything successful from the past started making its way back. The Mad About You reunion rumors first started when Paul Reiser, creator and star of the show, was doing press for Stranger Things in the fall, but now there are some updates.

At the time, he said “If we can find the story to tell, and anybody’s interested, I’d be open to it,” he told People. “To me, it’s interesting when I see my kids are growing and leaving the house. It’s like, ‘Oh.’ It’s like that moment when you get married. It’s like we’re in a new world that we don’t know the rules of.”

The show ended with a flash-forward set 22-years in the future, because Reiser said they didn't want a reunion. “Our thinking at the time was, ‘Let’s make sure we never get tempted to come back — let’s tell them what happens.'"

However, now multiple sources have revealed that both Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt are in talks to bring back Mad About You for a limited run. They want to base the story around Paul and Jamie dealing with their 17-year-old daughter going off to college and now having an 'empty nest'. No word on where the show would air. Originally the show aired on NBC, who has found success with their Will & Grace reboot, so that is a potential.
