"The Greatest American Hero" Is Getting A Reboot, But With A Twist

It's time for yet another reboot of one of our favorite classics. From The Mighty Ducks, to Sister, Sister and of course, Roseanne our airwaves are being filled with nostalgia from the 80s and 90s all over again.

Recently to join the popular reboot generation is none-other than cult classic The Greatest American Hero.

In the early 80s, before the Marvel Universe took over our television screens and movie theaters, The Greatest American Hero came to us for 44 episodes chalked full of entertainment.

The original series led by the character of Ralph Kinley, played by William Katt, was a school teacher who gained superhuman abilities after a group of aliens gave him a red and black super suit.

Now the comedic show is back, but with a twist no one expected.

ABC has given a pilot order for a reboot of The Greatest American Hero after over three decades of being off the air. This reimagining of Steven J. Cannell's 1981 cult classic will star Fresh Off The Boat actress Nahnatchka Khan.

Instead of centering around the character of Ralph, the show will be led by Meera, a 30-year-old woman who loves tequila and karaoke. She has spent her life searching and failing to find meaning in it, much to her Indian-American family's disapproval. An unexpected event happens to Meera which leaves her entrusted with the super suit and the responsibility to protect the planet.

Parks and Recreation and Fresh Off The Boat writer, Rachna Fruchbom will write and executive produce the project.

This isn't the first time that a network has tried to breathe some life into this series. In 2014, Fox was developing a reboot of Greatest American Hero with Rodney Rothman, Phil Lord and Chris Miller. But the show never made it to air.

Hopefully this time, it will get off the ground.

Are you excited to see this particular story reimagined?
