'Roseanne' Reboot Cancelled Over Star's Offensive Tweet

ABC

The reboot of Roseanne has officially been cancelled by ABC.

That's right, the show that people had been completely losing their minds over and watching in record numbers has been cancelled in a shocking decision because of the star's personal statements.

On May 29th, Roseanne Barr made a racist comment on Twitter about former President Obama's adviser Valerie Jarrett and even though her controversial tweets are notorious by now, this was the final straw.

ABC

She has since deleted the tweet and released an apology, claiming it was a "bad joke" but ABC, the network where her reboot was airing was not so amused.

Her statement on the matter is as follows:

"I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me - my joke was in bad taste."

Normally ABC seems to just ignore the tweets that Barr sends out, but this time it was different. Many people working on the show have already commented that this was unacceptable.

ABC

Wanda Sykes, consulting producer on the show, revealed that this behavior was unacceptable by saying she would not be back to the show (she said this before it was cancelled.)

Even Barr's TV daughter Sara Gilbert (Darlene) quickly responded to the tweet, calling it "abhorrent".

"Roseanne's recent comments about Valerie Jarrett, and so much more, are abhorrent and do not reflect the beliefs of our cast and crew or anyone associated with our show. I am disappointed in her actions to say the least."

ABC

She continued her statement, explaining how hard this decision is on everyone.

"This is incredibly sad and difficult for all of us, as we've created a show that we believe in, are proud of, and that audiences love - one that is separate and apart from the opinions and words of one cast member."

Moments after the cast released these statements, ABC revealed that the show would be cancelled immediately, even though they had already renewed it for another season.

Their statement mirrors what Gilbert said about the "abhorrent" nature of the tweet.

"Roseanne's Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show."

There is no word yet on if another network will pick up the show, but as of right now, the show will end with the 10th season because of Barr's words.
