You've Been Playing UNO Wrong Your Entire Life And Didn't Even Know It

Game nights, be it with family or friends, got lot more interesting in 1985 when Mattel introduced UNO. The iconic card game became an important part of childhoods for those who grew up in the 80s and 90s.

If you've never played UNO, the basic principle is really simple: be the first to get rid of all the cards in your hand. However, as with any game, the rules and the action cards make it a lot more challenging that you'd think.

Most people who have been playing the popular game think they know the rules by heart, but it turns out they really don't.

LaToya McCaskill, an expert UNO player, had some extra time to read the instructions that come with the game and found a little-known rule that will change how a lot of us play the game.

So what's the rule?

Turns out, there is more than one way to play the relationship-ruining Draw 4 wild card, and it actually makes the game more complicated than ever. No wonder people skip this rule.

"So it's taken me 35 years on this earth to realise that I've been playing Uno wrong since I was a kid [SIC]," wrote LaToya in a post on Facebook along with photos of the official rules.

"Did y’all know that you can only play the Draw 4 Wild card IF you have NO other cards that can be played??! McCaskill asked.

Did you know about this rule? No? Me neither, and that's not even all of it.

She continued, "AND if you suspect that someone has illegally played this card, they have to show you their hand. AND if they in fact played the card illegally they must draw 4, but If not, the person who challenged the play must DRAW 6?"

"2018 is going to be a year of enlightenment for me I can just feel it! #yourewelcome," McCaskill concluded her post.

You can read the entire post below and question everything anyone has ever told you about how to play UNO.
