New Retro Nintendo Console Teased By... Microsoft?!

Remember the rumors about that SNES Classic Edition that we talked about a month ago? Well, with E3 just around the corner the rumor mill has been picking up, and the latest source to add fuel to the fire is an unlikely one: Microsoft!

On a recent poll sent to Xbox Live members, Microsoft asked them to rank what E3 announcements they were the most excited to hear about. Normally this wouldn't spark much discussion online, but it wasn't long before people spotted something very, VERY interesting on the survey.

If you didn't catch it from the photo, one of the listed announcements is the SNES Classic Edition, which came as a big surprise since Nintendo themselves have not confirmed whether or not the system is even being made.

Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime with his usual response to rumors.

The rumors about the system came out about a month ago, when Eurogamer listed its existence as a reason for the very sudden cancellation of Nintendo's last retro console, the NES Classic. Since then, Nintendo have remained silent on the subject, neither confirming nor denying if the SNES Classic is even being made, much less if it's coming out this year.

So what gives, Nintendo?

So the question is: does Microsoft know something that we don't? Is the SNES Classic officially the video game industry's worst-kept secret? Or did Microsoft maybe jump the gun and ask about a rumor without any actual backup?

Either way, we want it.

It would make total sense for Nintendo to release a SNES Classic given how popular the NES Classic was, but people are also concerned that it might run into the same problems the last console did. The biggest problem, of course, was the fact that Nintendo didn't have nearly enough supply to meet the demand; stores could barely keep the console on the shelves, and it was canceled only a few months after coming out.

What do you think?

We didn't need the arcades anymore, we could play our games on our own TVs, but there was never the same community feeling. We used to all gather around the machine because someone was
