12 Great Songs That We'd Be Totally OK With Never Hearing Again
The world of music is always looking for its next big hit, and when it finds one, it has no problem playing it into complete oblivion. Songs that often start out catchy and wonderful eventually become annoying not because you realize they're bad, but just because you've heard them so many freaking times! These 12 songs in particular are the worst offenders.
Rednex - "Cotton Eye Joe"
As heard in sports stadiums country-wide, at this point it's pretty unlistenable.
Guns N' Roses - "Sweet Child O' Mine"
Objectively a great song and one of the band's best, but we're pretty sure we're going to snap if we ever hear that riff again.
Oasis - "Wonderwall"
This song has gone straight past being overplayed and right into a cliché. At this point I think more people laugh at it than genuinely enjoy it.
Three Doors Down - "Kryptonite
Every angsty teenager had this on repeat for YEARS, and we were pretty much sick of it after a few minutes.
Nickelback - "How You Remind Me"
Not gonna lie, we got tired of this one pretty much right after it came out.
These next few songs are some of the most overplayed ever...
Lynyrd Skynyrd - "Sweet Home Alabama"
It was a toss-up between this and "Freebird," but that song is awesome. This one is just corny and repetitive.
Led Zeppelin - "Stairway to Heaven"
Yet another song that's been overplayed to the point of being a joke in and of itself. "Remember: no Stairway."
The Verve - "Bitter Sweet Symphony"
If I never hear those opening strings in my life again it'll be too soon.
Journey - "Don't Stop Believin'"
The singularly most overrated song of the 80s (fight me, internet) doesn't get any better with age, and it's even had a resurgence in the last 10 years thanks to appearing on shows like Glee and Family Guy.
Green Day - "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)"
Fun fact: the song is supposed to be sarcastic and negative, hence its title of "Good Riddance." However, people didn't get that, and now it's one of the most cliched songs of all time.
Marvin Gaye - "Let's Get It On"
It showed up during just about every lovemaking scene on TV and in movies, and at this point it's more funny than seductive.
The White Stripes - "Seven Nation Army"
More like Seven Note Headache. Seriously, the opening to this can go away forever now.
