Zach Edey Carrying Purdue Basketball

The Purdue Boilermakers are on track to be one of the number-one seeds in the upcoming 2022-2023 NCAA Tournament. Purdue is one of the top teams in the country this season, thanks to center Zach Edey. Edey is very well in the running for the National Player Of the Year Award this season.

It will be interesting to see if anyone can compete with him for the award. He is one of the biggest headlines this season in college basketball so far this season. Zach Edey is one of the best college basketball picks to potentially be the best player in the NCAA Tournament if they can win it all this season. What are some of the interesting things about him this season?

His Dominating Stats

Zach Edey has been one of the most dominant stat guys in college basketball so far this season. He is averaging 21.9 PPG, 13.4 RPG, 1.3 APG, 2.2 BPG, and 0.2 SPG this year. Edey putting up over 20 points and grabbing 13 a game in college basketball is ridiculous. It is impressive that he is doing this on a night-to-night basis. He is only a junior and has one more year of eligibility remaining if he decides not to go to the NBA after this season ends.

Edey is also shooting 61.4% from the field and is also shooting 75.4% from the free throw line. He doesn’t shoot anything from three-point land because his percentage is at zero percent in this situation. Zach Edey is going to keep doing this daily for the Purdue Boilermakers. The dynamic of this college basketball team changes without him on the floor. He is 7’4” and weighs 295 lbs. His movement is also very good, and this is no soft big man.

Recent Game-Winning Shot

Edey hit the game-winning shot for the Purdue Boilermakers against the Michigan State Spartans on 1/16 by a final score of 64-63. In that game, he scored 32 points and grabbed 17 rebounds in that one. Zach Edey blocked two shots and also shot 50.0% from the field and also 85.7% from the free throw line in that one also.

That game was played on the road. Michigan State is a very good basketball team in a hostile environment. Tom Izzo had no answers for him. Matt Painter, the head coach of the Purdue Boilermakers, is currently proud of his play on the basketball court.

Possible BIG10 Player Of the Year

The BIG10 Conference isn’t the conference it once used to be, but it is still very competitive and very good. There is no doubt he is going to run away with the BIG10 Player Of the Year Award when the voting for it comes. Zach Edey has been the one player in college basketball this season that hasn’t only stood out within the conference but has stood out Nationally.

Some of the other top teams in the BIG10 Conference are the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, the Michigan Wolverines, the Illinois Fighting Illini, and the Wisconsin Badgers. Those teams have some very good players on it but none of them are elite like Zach Edey has been this season. It will be very interesting to see how many votes Edey is going to get when it is all said and done.

He Is From Canada

Edey wasn’t born in the United States of America. He is from Toronto, Ontario, and it is very rare for college basketball players to dominate from another country. Zach Edey is going to be another player that is possibly going to go to the NBA from Canada. There have been more Canadian players going to the NBA as of late.

This could be a trend moving forward. Coming from another country is always a cool story.

Potential Tournament MVP Candidate

When March Madness rolls around, Zach Edey will be a prime candidate to win the Tournament’s most outstanding player. This won’t be a surprise because Purdue wins it all; it will be all on him with his fingerprints for this basketball team. He is in a lot of ways like Chet Holmgren from Gonzaga was a season ago.

But Edey feels like a more dominant player than he was. Zach Edey is going to be must-watch TV once the NCAA Tournament rolls around. Once he gets the eyeballs on TV, they will know who he is in a hurry also.
