A New Plan For The Women Of "Scooby-Doo" Will Make You Say "Jinkies"

Scooby-Doo has been an endearing and popular series for decades now, with just about every generation of kids getting tons of new movies, series, and specials from the Scooby Gang as they travel around the world, keeping criminals from getting away with things.

Unlike other Hanna-Barbera shows like The Flintstones and The Jetsons, which have largely faded into obscurity over the last few years, the gang of Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy, and Scooby continue to sell movies and entertain kids worldwide, and the crazy adventures they get up to continue to pit them against weird creepies and crawlies (which almost always turn out to be some guy in a crappy mask).

It's a franchise that hasn't felt the need to change much over the years, but the newest live-action movie coming from the studio might actually shake things up in a significant way: it's going to focus entirely on the ladies of the Scooby Gang...

A new live-action movie called Daphne and Velma is apparently about the early days of the two's legendary friendship: it takes place at Ridge Valley High, where online BFFs Daphne (Sarah Jeffrey) and Velma (Sarah Gilman) embrace their budding friendship in real life, all while solving some mysteries.

The plot even sounds like something straight out of the cartoon: a local tech company has a competition to determine who gets to be their newest intern, but of course, something sinister immediately comes up when students who enter the contest start disappearing. I can only guess that at some point a creepy monster is going to be revealed to be a guy in a mask, who will comment that they would've gotten away with it if it weren't for those meddling kids.

The production comes from actress Ashley Tisdale's company, Blondie Girl Productions, which she co-manages with her sister, Jennifer Tisdale. The company is focused on producing content revolving around positive portrayals of women, and this looks to be a great entry in that library. Sorry Fred and Shaggy, you'll just have to sit this one out.
