Robert De Niro Is One Of The Greatest Actors Ever, But You Wouldn't Know It From These Movies

Robert De Niro is best-known for playing big-screen tough guys from the 70s through to the early 2000s, and his body of work from those years speaks for itself. With movies like The Godfather Part II, Raging Bull, The Untouchables and Goodfellas under his belt, the man has more than earned his place among Hollywood royalty.

Paramount

Unfortunately, he seems to have spent the last few decades choosing to do some pretty terrible movies, making us wonder what even happened? In particular, these 10 really show that it's been a long time since Taxi Driver.

Analyze That (2002)

1996's Analyze This was a decent comedy starring Billy Crystal as a therapist to De Niro's mob boss character, but what limited laughs it had were all gone for this boring and unnecessary sequel.

The Fan (1996)

De Niro plays a man who becomes increasingly obsessed with a new player on his favorite sports team as the rest of his life falls apart, and the results are often more unintentionally hilarious than creepy.

The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle (2000)

In this adaptation nobody asked for of the classic 1950s cartoon, De Niro plays The Fearless Leader of Pottsylvania, and spends the entire time chewing the scenery and repeating lines from other, better movies.

Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (1994)

Thanks to the success of Francis Ford Coppola's Bram Stoker's Dracula, the studio decided to follow it up with this "realistic" take on Frankenstein. De Niro plays the monster, and it's even more laughable than Gary Oldman was as Dracula.

These aren't even the worst movies he's been in...

Showtime (2002)

By 2002 the "buddy-cop" genre was already overdone and stale, and De Niro teaming up with Eddie Murphy for one of the most boring ones was likely the nail in the coffin.

Hide and Seek (2005)

One of the few horror movies he'd ever do, De Niro stars opposite Dakota Fanning in a movie about his deceased wife coming back to haunt them. It is neither scary or tense.

Godsend (2004)

De Niro plays a geneticist who clones a grieving couple's deceased son, and of course things start going wrong very quickly. The only thing scary about it is just how bad the movie is.

Shark Tale (2004)

Best known as the other underwater cartoon movie from the same year as Finding Nemo, Shark Tale had Will Smith's fish duke it out with Robert De Niro as a gangster shark. It's about as good as it sounds.

New Year's Eve (2011)

One of several holiday movies from a company that somehow manages to cast tons of celebrities in mediocre romantic comedies, this is often considered the worst, and a low point in De Niro's career.

Little Fockers (2010)

The third entry in a "comedy" series whose biggest joke is about how funny the name "Gaylord Focker" is, De Niro somehow manages to even be less funny than Ben Stiller.
