Mel Gibson Teases Potential Lethal Weapon Sequel And Danny Glover's Probably Saying "I'm Getting Too Old For This Shit"

For the past few months, rumors have been swirling around a fifth Lethal Weapon movie, but one of the franchise's stars may have all but confirmed the potential follow-up.

Mel Gibson, who famously played Martin Riggs, made a guest appearance on Good Morning America to promote his new comedy, Daddy's Home 2. During the interview, he hinted at another sequel of the buddy-cop film, mentioning a recent conversation with his co-star Danny Glover and the film's director Richard Donner.

"I went to see Dan the other night, he was doing a theater production in L.A. I went to see him with Donner, the director of those old movies. So we got to talking," Gibson told GMA. So, eh, maybe."

This summer, Gibson, Glover, and Rene Russo reunited for the original movie's 30th anniversary. The stars fueled movie rumors when they told ABC News while there weren't any plans for a fifth installment, they said they would be interested in reprising their roles.

"You'd play off the fact that they're not as limber as they used to be," Gibson said."And I think that would be fun."

Russo said, "That would be great. Could be a real comedy," Russo added.

Gibson and Glover had also recently reunited in public to honor Donnor at a career tribute at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in June. Gibson had saluted the renown director as a "f*cking genius."

The franchise first began in 1987, with their most recent installment appearing on the silver screen in 1998. Together the four films have pulled in $955.2 million worldwide, and was nominated for two Academy Awards. The series also spun-off a TV show in 2016, starring Clayne Crawford and Damon Wayans.
