8 People Who Beat Their Doctor's Expectations And Miraculously Survived

Hollywood Reporter / Spiegel

A miracle is an extraordinary event that is usually attributed to a supernatural being.

I mean come on, who else could have the ability to bring you back to life? Some things just can't be explained.

There are absolutely no words as to how these eight people survived such traumatic incidents. Even their doctors were surprised.

1. Parents prepare to donate teen's organs, but then he wakes from his coma.

If this story doesn't turn into a Hollywood blockbuster, I don't know what would.

Thirteen-year-old Trenton McKinley was riding in a trailer pulled by a go-cart when he suddenly went flying in the air.

Then his head landed on concrete. To make matters worse, the trailer landed on his head too.

Trenton had seven skull fractures and was put into a coma. According to Today, there was a time his vitals flatlined for 15 minutes.

All hope seemed lost and so his parents signed papers to allow doctors to donate Trenton's organs.

Not too long after, the young boy's limbs started moving, and then he fully regained consciousness.

"God's got something big planned for that little man,” his mother told Today.

2.  Charlie Theron's body went numb after doing a back flip for a movie.

The Oscar-winning actress is no stranger to tragedy.

Perhaps the most traumatic experience of her life was when she landed on her neck while performing a back flip during the filming of Aeon Flux.

Charlize got a herniated disk and spent years recovering from the injury that was very close to her spine.

"I was a centimeter away from being completely paralyzed for the rest of my life," she told news.com.au about the 2005 stunt.

3. Man beats cancer after fixing up an abandoned church.

Greg Thomas was in his mid-50s when he was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in his head and neck.

"When I found out that I had cancer, they told my family to go ahead and start planning my funeral," he told KARE11.

Instead of living in despair, the Minnesota man spent months restoring an old chapel by a countryside.

“I was sitting at the church one evening, pouring my heart out to God,” Greg said. “I kept looking at the building and the shape it was in. I said, ‘Before I leave this Earth, Lord, I’d like to do something for you.’”

He remembered that the more he worked on the church, the healthier he felt. When he went to get a check up on his condition, the doctors told him that his tumors were shrinking.

“My oncologist was blown away,” Greg recalled. “She said, ‘Whatever you’re doing, keep on doing it.’”

4. Man struck by lightning seven times

Roy C. Sullivan is anything but ordinary. He was struck by lightning seven times and lived to tell the tale.

The chances of being struck by lightning once is extremely low, which is honestly the best thing you'll hear today.

Lightning affects the heart's electrical rhythm, which can cause a cardiac arrest or a seizure.

The first time Roy was struck by lightning was in 1942. He was in a lookout tower when a lightning bolt hit his leg. He only lost the nail on his big toe.

The second time he was driving. He was knocked unconscious and the bolt of light burned off his eyebrows.

The third time he was in his front yard and the fourth time his hair was set on fire.

The fifth time lightning propelled him out of his car and set it on fire. The sixth and seventh time Roy was doing regular activities outdoors, like camping and fishing.

5. Sharon Stone

The famous 90s actress, well known for her roles in Casino and Basic Instinct, was only 43 years old when she suffered a nine-day brain hemorrhage that left her unable to read, talk without a stutter, or walk.

"I had a 5% chance of surviving," she said. "I thought that I was dying for a long time, even after I came home."

It took her a couple years until she recovered and was able to appear in movies again.

"I couldn’t write my name for almost three years," she said. "I couldn’t get my arm to listen to my mind, so I had to learn to read and write again. I had to learn to speak again. It took years for the feeling to come back to my left leg, but it finally came back."

6. New mother was pronounced dead for 45 minutes.

Ruby Graupera-Cassimiro was 40 years old when she gave birth to her baby girl.

Doctors performed a normal C-section, but what came after was far from normal.

When the new mother was moved to the recovery room, she suffered a cardiac arrest and was forced on cardiac life support.

“For more than two hours, she was having life-threatening heartbeats,” her doctor said. Ruby's heart was apparently beating but was not pumping blood.

Ruby's family came to say goodbye, but then a miracle happened.

“I was seconds away from turning off the ventilation machine when one of the nurses shouted, ‘Stop!’” her doctor said. “Without any medicine or CPR, Ruby’s heart began to beat on its own for the first time in two hours. It is just indescribable.”

Turns out Ruby was suffering from an amniotic fluid embolism, in which amniotic fluid leaked into her uterus and traveled into her bloodstream.

“Someone else was running the show that day; there’s no doubt in my mind,” Ruby said. “I don’t know why God chose me, but I know he gave me this life again for a reason.”

7.  Earthquake survivor buried for 27 days.

The Telegraph / International Rescue Committee

Evans Monsignac defied medical logic after spending almost a month trapped in the ruins of Haiti's earthquake in 2010.

The 27-year-old man was found malnourished, dehydrated, and covered with wounds.

He was able to escape death by sipping sewage water that ran underneath the rubble area.

"I still don't understand how I'm here," he told the Telegraph. "I was resigned to death. But God gave me life. The fact that I'm alive today isn't because of me, it's because of the grace of God. It's a miracle, I can't explain it."

Doctors can't explain it either.

"He calls himself a miracle? He's right," the Florida doctor who treated him said. "We don't know what happened during those 27 days but his story isn't unbelievable."

8. George Clooney cracked his head open on a movie set.

The Hollywood heartthrob was filming a torture scene in the 2005 film Syriana when he was accidentally hit over the head with a chair.

The membrane that holds the spinal fluid ruptured, leaving George with a life-threatening injury he wasn't sure he could live with for the rest of his life.

"I was at a point where I thought, 'I can't exist like this. I can't actually live,'" he told Rolling Stone about the time he contemplated suicide.

"I was lying in a hospital bed with an IV in my arm, unable to move, having these headaches where it feels like you're having a stroke, and for a short three-week period, I started to think, 'I may have to do something drastic about this.'"

Luckily, the 57-year-old actor is still alive today and is the father of healthy twins.
