Nintendo Has Updated Mario's Job Description And It's Got Him Saying 'Mamma Mia'

CBS

In a weird confirmation that no one expected, Nintendo has announced that Mario is not a plumber like we all thought he was!

CBS

The character first appeared in the original Donkey Kong game all the way back in 1981 and has gone through a lot of changed over the years.

Whether it was in his original Super Mario Bros game where he got to play in the pipes that took him through all kinds of interesting worlds...

Or the elaborate Super Mario Galaxy where he could travel through space...

Mario has a had a lot of makeovers over the years, but most of the time it is just his physical appearance - not his profession.

Now, Nintendo has kind of changed their mind about his current profession, and honestly it kind of makes sense...

Mario has been around for over thirty years now, and have you ever seen him do any plumbing work? Sure, he had that TV show that we all know and love, but since then he's been busy rescuing Peach and advancing his racing career.

Turns out, Mario probably retired a long time ago...

The Japanese Nintendo website recently went through a redesign and one of the areas of the page that was changed were the profiles of the characters. Mario's new profile shows that he isn't the plumber that we all once believed him to be.

Now, loosely translated it says that Mario is "All around sporty, whether it’s tennis or baseball, soccer or car racing, [Mario] does everything cool. As a matter of fact, he also seems to have worked as a plumber a long time ago…"

So while it acknowledges his past, it's kind of moving past it and pretending like he is just a general "all around" guy.

Do you think it's weird that they would bother changing it? Let us know in the comments!
