'Beetlejuice 2' Is Back On Track But We Aren't Sure How To Feel

Warner Bros.

It has been a long time coming, but Beetlejuice is finally getting a little bit closer to getting a sequel. The Tim Burton classic is starting the process to bring back the outrageous character that we all fell in love with all the way back in 1988.

Nearly 30 years ago, the movie Beetlejuice came out. The story follows Alec Baldwin and Gena Davis who play Adam and Barbara Maitland. They have just recently died and are dealing with the fact that a new family has moved into their home.

Warner Bros.

They try to scare away the family, but it doesn't go well. They then decide to hire Beetlejuice to get ride of the new family but he isn't what they expected.

Through a weird course of events, Beetlejuice almost marries Lydia, but the Maitland ghosts stop the wedding in time. Beetlejuice is sent to the afterlife waiting room and the Maitland ghosts decide to let the new family stay in the house.

You would think that having Beetlejuice sent back down to the afterlife would mean the end of the character, but apparently they have some new plans...

It has long been rumored that Beetlejuice would get a sequel, but it's finally starting to see some movement.

The sequel is expected to bring back Tim Burton and Michael Keaton, but first they need a script. They have announced that Mike Vukadinovich has started rewriting the sequel that was already started.

Warner Bros.

Vukadinovich has worked on movies like Rememory and Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. He also has written for television, including Marvel's Runaways and Fox's Horrorstory.

The original sequel script was written but Seth Grahame-Smith who co-wrote Burton's 2012 movie Dark Shadows. He has since stepped away from the project but had said that it wasn't going to be a remake or reboot, but a "true sequel".

Warner Bros.

Tim Burton has been hinting at the sequel for years. Last year he said that both Keaton and Winona Ryder would be back but so far no one has officially signed on. He had said, "The film is a go and has been approved by the Warner Bros. team, we have talked with the cast members we wanted for the film and they are all on board, this includes both Winona and Michael. We have the script in hand everything is in place all we need to do now is get ready to start filming.”

With the rewrites starting now, maybe we could have the movie by the 30th anniversary! Sometimes sequels are really good, but there are a lot the just feel completely unnecessary. It's hard to tell how this will turn out...

What do you think? Do you want to see what Beetlejuice and Lydia are up to now?
