13 Things You Never Knew About Frasier

<div><p>Very few shows have as long or as successful of a run as Frasier. The show had 11 seasons between 1993-2004 and was nominated for many awards over the years. Kelsey Grammer Played Frasier For 20 Years</strong></h3><div><figure><amp-img src="https://legacy.throwbacks.com/content/images/2017/05/Frasier-Crane-frasier-9342190-500-375.jpg" title="" alt="" height="9" width="16" layout="responsive"></amp-img></figure></div><p>If you count both <strong>Cheers</strong> and <strong>Frasier,</strong> Kelsey Grammar played Frasier Crane for 20 consecutive years. That's an insane amount of time to play one character! No one else has beaten that record, the only person who has tied him is James Arness who played Marshall Dillon on <strong>Gunsmoke. </strong></p><h3><strong>2. He has been nominated for his portrayal of Frasier on THREE different series</strong></h3><div><figure><amp-img src="https://legacy.throwbacks.com/content/images/2017/05/Frasier-Crane-frasier-9342194-500-375.jpg" title="" alt="" height="9" width="16" layout="responsive"></amp-img></figure></div><p>He has been nominated for an Emmy for not only <strong>Cheers</strong> and <strong>Frasier, </strong>but also for a guest appearance he had on the show <strong>Wings. </strong></p><h3><strong>3. The character Niles was created specifically for David Hyde Pierce</strong></h3><div><figure><amp-img src="https://legacy.throwbacks.com/content/images/2017/05/27f09bbdd9ffb6c440123e54e4eb05c5-1.jpg" title="" alt="" height="9" width="16" layout="responsive"></amp-img></figure></div><p>Frasier didn't have a brother originally. It wasn't until the casting director saw a photo of him and noticed the resemblance that they even thought that should be a part of the show. They didn't want to continue on that and suffer from comparisons but the studio hated the idea they came up with. Apparently they pitched Grammer as a paralyzed media mogul with a nurse in a Manhattan apartment. </p><p></p><div align="center" data-freestar-ad="__336x280 __789x280" id="throwbacks_articles_incontent _1"> </div><p></p><h3><strong>5. They set the show in Seattle so they wouldn't have to deal with constant questions about guest stars from <strong>Cheers. </strong>They decided that Fraiser's voice was great for the radio which is what inspired the call-in psychiatry show. </p><h3><strong>6. Pheobe was almost Roz</strong></h3><div><figure><amp-img src="https://legacy.throwbacks.com/content/images/2017/05/peri-gilpin-frasier-tv-show-photo-GC.jpg" title="" alt="" height="9" width="16" layout="responsive"></amp-img></figure></div><p>That's right, Lisa Kudrow was actually on her third day of rehersals before getting recast. She apparently wasn't forceful enough to combat Grammer's attitude so they ended up going with Peri Gilpin, a.k.a the Roz Doyle we all know and love. The theme song wanted to reference psychiatry without <em>really</em> referencing it</strong></h3><div><figure><amp-img src="https://legacy.throwbacks.com/content/images/2017/05/Frasier-Tossed-Salad-And-Scrambled-Eggs-1334015969-500x375.jpg" title="" alt="" height="9" width="16" layout="responsive"></amp-img></figure></div><p>"Tossed salad and scrambled eggs" is supposed to be a metaphor for the patients who are all "mixed up". They got Grammer to sing the song because... why not! </p><h3><strong>9. Frasier's apartment for almost a half a million dollars to furnish</strong></h3><div><figure><amp-img src="https://legacy.throwbacks.com/content/images/2017/05/frasier-apartment.jpg" title="" alt="" height="9" width="16" layout="responsive"></amp-img></figure></div><p>They wanted it to look expensive and holy moly they did not hold back. The couch alone cost $15,000. There was a chair that cost $1,395 and a sideboard that cost $3,200! </p><p>Even Martin's chair was actually pretty pricey because they couldn't find an ugly enough one at the second-hand stores. They ended up finding it at a store that made deliberately tacky furniture from the 70s so it was actually brand new. </p><h3><strong>10. He was a Jack Russell Terrier named Moose who was adopted after his first family couldn't handle his energy. When Moose got too old his son took over</strong></h3><div><figure><amp-img src="https://legacy.throwbacks.com/content/images/2017/05/qSytfNiS5Ful.jpg" title="" alt="" height="9" width="16" layout="responsive"></amp-img></figure></div><p>Moose retired when he was 10, (Season 7) but luckily they had prepared in advance and bred him to see if they would end up with a puppy who looked similar. </p><p>Of the three puppies, only one looked like his father named Enzo. The others, Miko and Moosie, were either too small or had different markings. </p><div><figure><amp-img src="https://legacy.throwbacks.com/content/images/2017/05/abd270cf5a5a321d42d9fcd847442a4f.png" title="" alt="" height="9" width="16" layout="responsive"></amp-img></figure></div><p>They did however bring Moose back for the final episode's curtain call, so he could take a final bow. the whole cast was excited he came back. </p><h3><strong>12. When Niles Co-hosted Frasier's radio show it was because Grammer was in rehab</strong></h3><div><figure><amp-img src="https://legacy.throwbacks.com/content/images/2017/05/niles.jpg" title="" alt="" height="9" width="16" layout="responsive"></amp-img></figure></div><p>In 1996 Kelsey Grammer flipped his Dodge Viper in California. He was arrested for DUI and sent to rehab. Luckily, the show was on hiatus anyways, so it was only one episode that was affected.
