11 Disney Reboots That Are Getting Made, Whether You Want Them Or Not

Disney

Disney movies were one of those things that you treasured with all of your heart. If you were anything like me, you had a collection of those white puffy cases on VHS and were really proud of how many you had accumulated.

The thing is, Disney has continued making great movies in recent years, even though they don't exactly look how we remember them looking. Sure, everything is a little bit more 3D and perhaps slightly too realistic, but the stories will still hit you right in the heart.

However, lately they have been turning their sights onto something a little bit more familiar. They've been making a bunch of live-action remakes of our childhood favorites, and honestly it has been a little bit much.

Sure, The Jungle Book was a stunning example of CGI, but did we really need another version of Cinderella?

Well, whether we want it or not, Disney is insistent on bringing us remake after remake. The thing is, there are a bunch that people know about, but there are a few sneaky ones that they are discussing that you may not have realized were on the table.

For those of you who want to be prepared, check out all the upcoming Disney reboots that you can expect in the coming years.

Aladdin - 2019

This one is pretty well known at this point, and the casting has been a very interesting topic of conversation. It's going to be hard to see anyone try to fill Robin Williams's shoes, but Will Smith will be giving it his all in 2019.

The group seems to be getting along, but who knows what we're in for when the movie comes out next year. I know we were all a little bit surprised when they cast such a gorgeous guy to play Jafar, but I guess they have the right to make whatever artistic changes they want. We'll have to wait to find out!

The Lion King - 2019

The Lion King is easily one of the best Disney movies and the thought of them remaking it has a lot of people nervous, but the cast announcement is at least a little bit intriguing.

James Earl Jones is back as Mufasa because literally no one else should do it, and then with Donald Glover and Beyonce Knowles-Carter as Simba and Nala, there is at least a lot of talent in their corner.

Dumbo - March 29, 2019

Disney

Everyone's favorite elephant is coming back, but this time he's getting the Tim Burton treatment. Burton is known for his unique style, but we don't really know much about what he's got planned so far. We do know that Colin Farrell, Eva Green, Danny DeVito, and Michael Keaton will be playing parts in the story.

Mulan - 2020

The new version of Mulan will be staring a Chinese actress named Liu Yifei and they are promising to hire Chinese actors for the main roles.

Disney

Originally the movie was supposed to come out in 2018, but it was pushed back to March 2020 just earlier this year.

Those are the movies with definitive dates that everyone is aware of, but there are still even more that are coming sometime soon, and we aren't sure how we feel about it...

The Little Mermaid - TBD

Disney

We don't know when we'll be back under the sea, but we do know that Lin-Manuel Miranda will be creating some new music for the movie. He is the creator of Hamilton and also wrote some of the music for Moana, so he's clearly going to do an amazing job.

Peter Pan - TBD

How many times can we go back to Neverland before it gets old? Apparently we are going to find out. Except this time there is not one Peter Pan-based project in the works, there's two!

Disney

The first is another Peter Pan live action, which honestly has been done a lot so I'm not sure how they will make it interesting. But they are also making a separate movie called Tink that will star Reese Witherspoon and is about the one and only Tinker Bell.

Snow White - TBD

Disney

This remake isn't necessarily just about the titular character, instead this spin-off will be called Rose Red and will follow Snow White's estranged sister who is trying to save her from the curse. I didn't even know Snow White had a sister but alright then!

Pinocchio - TBD

Disney

I'm sorry, but they absolutely already made a live action Pinocchio and I don't know that anyone but me watched it, even though it starred none other than Jonathon Taylor Thomas. If they want to try again, sure, but seems strange to me! Stranger still, Warner Bros. is also planning a different Pinocchio movie starring Robert Downey Jr..

There are even more remakes too, some that I had never even heard of until today...

Lady and the Tramp - TBD

Disney

I guess the live action version of 101 Dalmatians wasn't enough to discourage Disney from working with animals, because they've announced a CGI/live action hybrid that will be heading directly onto Disney's new streaming service. The service launches in 2019, but they haven't announced when this new version will be released.

Speaking of the 101 Dalmatians, one of the characters is getting a spin-off

Cruella - 2018

Disney

Easily one of the most terrifying villains to have ever been created, Cruelle de Vil is getting her own movie. They are going into the backstory of the horrifying puppy murderer, with Emma Stone playing the lead role. Personally, I don't know how she will top Glenn Close, but I am curious to see it attempted.

Another spin off is coming out too...

Prince Charming - TBA

Disney

They haven't even told us which Prince Charming it is. It might be the one from Snow White or the one from Cinderella, but we won't know until they tell us more!

Which of these Disney movies are you willing to give a chance?
