10 TV Shows That Were Turned Into Video Games For Reasons We Don't Understand
It's not uncommon for massively popular movies and TV shows to get video game adaptations, and this was especially the case during the 80s and 90s. However, sometimes the shows that executives ask to be turned into video games don't make a lot of sense, as you'll see with these 10 examples.
Fester's Quest
In this adaptation of The Addams Family, Uncle Fester has to save the family by shooting spiders, exploring weird pseudo-3D houses, and fighting bosses. It had some pretty great music, as was common with Sunsoft games.
ALF
It's a platformer where ALF tries to repair his spaceship so he can travel to Mars with his girlfriend. It's pretty straightforward, but still, weird.
The Adventures of Gilligan's Island
Despite the show still being huge in syndication at the time, the game based on it absolutely bombed. Maybe this was because you just played the Skipper (not even Gilligan) and walked around attacking gorillas.
The Beverly Hillbillies
A weird point-and-click adventure game based on a show that was already decades old, this game had you controlling the Hillbillies as they went on their usual misadventures. It's often considered one of the worst PC games of all time.
The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle
We can think of weirder choices for a platformer than the classic moose and squirrel duo, but what ultimately seals this game's infamy is the fact that it's absolutely terrible.

Mission: Impossible
When the famous spy show was rebooted in the 80s it got the standard NES game treatment, complete with punching lots of generic goons.
The Dallas Quest
Released for the Amiga computer, you're a detective hired by Sue Ellen to find an important map while avoiding J.R. Aside from the character names, it basically had nothing to do with the show.
Elvira: Mistress of the Dark
Because nothing says great fodder for an adventure game like a buxom horror movie show host. That being said, this was actually made by a pretty reputable developer and got positive reviews when it came out!
The Lone Ranger
A generic wild west shooter that had only the slightest references to either The Lone Ranger or Tonto. Frankly we'd rather just play Gun.Smoke (which had nothing to do with the show Gunsmoke).
Home Improvement
Someone's stolen Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor's new tools from the set of Tool Time, and he needs to fight his way through different TV sets to get them back. It's possibly the weirdest premise you could have made based on this show, and a pretty lousy game too.
