Galaxy Quest Is Getting A New TV Show Because They Will "Never Give Up, Never Surrender"

Galaxy Quest is one of those amazing movies that deserves a lot more credit then it gets. It was a fantastic sci-fi comedy that people tend to forget, but now it's about to make a comeback! Amazon has announced that it's bringing back the hilarious Star Trek-style space exploration show to their streaming service with a brand new show.

Galaxy Quest followed the story of a group of actors who had been the stars of a television show that was kind of like Star Trek. They traveled through space on a large ship, interacting with aliens and going on adventures. They were doing Comic Con-style conventions, and the lead actor, who was played by Tim Allen, ends up getting brought into a real alien situation.

The entire cast ends up getting dragged into this crazy excursion that feels like an episode from their show. They travel in a space ship, they fight aliens, and they manage to help keep the galaxy secure from an attack.

It has been 18 years since the movie the came out, but Amazon is ready to give it another go by turning it into a TV series. The series was announced back in 2015, but now the people responsible for the upcoming series have finally let us know what to expect, and how it will connect to the original movie...

Writer and producer Paul Scheer said that,“It’s going to be so long before people get to see it, I don’t want people to get too burnt out on me telling you what it’s about before it gets to that point. But for me, it was really important to do service to a ‘Galaxy Quest’ story that gives you everything that you want and indoctrinates people who have never seen ‘Galaxy Quest’ into what the fun of that world is […] and also to continue the story of our original characters and have consequences from the first film.”

He thinks that the change in people's interests will help bring eyes to the series. “I really wanted to capture the difference between the original cast of ‘Star Trek’ and the J.J. Abrams cast of ‘Star Trek.’ I think that, to me, is my entry point. Sci-fi heroes are rock stars now. If you look at ‘Thor,’ in 1999 if that movie came out, it would not be received the way it is. People would not want to see a cosmic, galactic thing on that level. But now we’re accepting it. I think just by virtue of that switch in our environment, it’ll make the story feel a little bit more fresh.”

Sheer's new show has plans to mix the original cast with some new members. The original cast of Galaxy Quest included Tim Allen, Alan Richman, Sigourney Weaver, Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell, and Daryl Mitchell. He says he wants to “avoid anything that could be viewed as a reboot for reboot’s sake. There are real reasons behind these choices — maybe too much so.”

At least it's good to know that the 90s classic is in good hands, with people who want to do it justice! There's No official word on who will be in the new show, but as soon as there is we will let you know!
