'The Addams Family' Is Getting A Creepy And Cartoony Reboot In 2019, And We're Already Screaming

No matter what decade you grew up in, it seems like there's always been at least one version of everybody's favorite morbid, dysfunctional (yet surprisingly also functional) family that lives in a haunted house. The Addams Family debuted in 1938 as a series of single-panel cartoons in The New Yorker by cartoonist Charles Addams (some relation), and ever since then we've had tons of TV and movie adaptations to keep us entertained.

Whether it's the original black-and-white live-action series from the 60s, the first cartoon from the 70s, the two 90s movies starring Raul Julia and Anjelica Huston, the 90s animated series, or even the live-action series from the late 90s, there's been a version of The Addams Family for just about every generation to watch and have some morbid fun with. Of course, this makes it all the more surprising that we haven't seen anything from them since 1998! That's right, it's been nearly 20 years since Gomez and Morticia last welcomed us into their home.

It was announced in 2010 that there were plans for a stop-motion animation Addams Family movie to be directed by Tim Burton, but the project ultimately fell through and once again we were left without any way to get ourselves a new glimpse at the Addams Family Manor...

Paramount

Until now that is! MGM has announced that the Addamses will be back on the big screen very soon, and while details are scarce, they're still pretty interesting...

MGM recently announced that it's targeting a release date of October 11, 2019 for the new Addams Family movie, releasing it just in time for Halloween (and on the same day as the new Are You Afraid of the Dark? reboot). While not much is known at this point, it's been confirmed that Conrad Vernon, the director of Shrek 2 and Sausage Party, will direct, and Pamela Pettler, who wrote the scripts for Corpse Bride, Monster House, and 9 will be screenwriting.

The studio also confirmed that the movie will be 3D-animated, as opposed to live-action adaptation like the previous movies. So far a cast has not been revealed, but it has been confirmed that the role of Gomez Addams is currently being offered to Oscar Isaac, star of films like Ex Machina, Inside Llewyn Davis, and the recent Star Wars movies.
