10 Actresses That Make You Say "Oh Yeah, Them"

Sometimes things just don't work out as planned. Hollywood is no different, it can be an almost literal meat grinder when it comes to the careers of aspiring actors and actresses. Occasionally a "star" will break through the barrier for a little bit, but they are unable to make it to the top of the mountain, or rather on to the A-List.

Here are 10 actresses who shoulda, woulda, coulda, but didn't end up making it to the top.

1. Mira Sorvino

Even though she won an Oscar for her role as a hooker in the movie Mighty Aphrodite, she was never able to duplicate that success. Sorvino had mild success with the comedy Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion, but all of her projects after that fell flat on their faces. Where is she now? I couldn't tell you.

2. Elizabeth Berkley

Remember Jessie from Saved by the Bell? Well after she was done on the show she made her first big attempt at Hollywood stardom when she was cast as the lead role in Showgirls, a movie about strippers in Las Vegas. The movie was laughed out of theaters, and not in a good way. That role has continued to haunt her career and she was never able to move past it.

3. Thora Birch

Birch had the makings of what looked like a promising career. With film credits that included: Hocus Pocus, Patriot Games, Now and Then, and acclaimed film American Beauty, we all expected huge things from her. Unfortunately she suffered through a series of flops, and because she refused to get rid of her dad as her manager, her career continued to bottom out. She is making somewhat of an Indie-film comeback recently.

4. Kate Hudson

In the early 2000s, this woman was in everything, and it seemed that every romantic comedy starred her alongside Matthew McConaughey. She has been in a major downward slump for sometime now, and even an attempt to to be part of the formerly hit show Glee did nothing for her. I can't remember the last time that I heard of her in a conversation on relevance.

5. Rachel Leigh Cook

Cook was looking like a rising star in the late 90s when she starred in the teen comedy She's All That. Her follow-up attempt with Josie and the Pussycats flopped like a soggy french fry and she has been relegated to direct video release films and a variety of movies from the Hallmark Channel.

6. Shannon Elizabeth

Elizabeth's claim to fame was that iconic bedroom scene in American Pie where she goes topless and causes Jim to "lose control" a little early. She has shown up in a couple other American Pie movies, as well as in Scary Movie and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Now she earns a living as a pro poker player.

7. Mena Suvari

The end of the 90s looked like the beginning of a massive career for Suvari. She starred in American Pie, and followed that up with American Beauty. She was becoming a pop culture icon, and continued to act in films such as: Loser, The Musketeer and Sugar & Spice. She didn't do anything wrong to sabotage her career, it just never seemed to gain any more momentum.

8. Alicia Silverstone

Another darling of the 90s teen movie craze, Silverstone became an icon as Cher in the movie Clueless. It seems that one wrong career decision derailed what could have gone on to become a lucrative life. She played Batgirl in the disaster that was Batman & Robin. It was so bad that people stopped casting her because of it.

9. Ashley Judd

Judd is one of those names that is synonymous with Hollywood, even if you don't understand why. After having success with movies like: Heat, A Time to Kill, Norma Jean & Marilyn, Kiss the Girls, and of course Double Jeopardy, she just seemed to vanish. She had a couple of flops that derailed her career, and she is one of the women who came out with allegations against disgraced Hollywood power broker Harvey Weinstein.

10 Jessica Biel

Biel shot to fame with her long-time role on the hit 90s show 7th Heaven. She made some fun, if critically slammed movies like: Blade Trinity, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, Summer Catch and The A-Team. In the end her movies ended up costing studios millions of dollars, and she hasn't really got her footing back since. Though she is married to triple threat, Justin Timberlake.
