A She-Ra Reboot Is Actually Happening, And 2018 Is Already Better
2017 is the year of Wonder Woman, but there's another female superhero who is going to be all the rage in 2018: She-Ra.
She-Ra, the alter ego of Princess Adora of Eternia, was one of the most popular animated characters of the 80s. The iconic character first appeared on He-Man and the Masters of The Universe as Prince Adam's badass twin sister and sidekick who helped defend Castle Grayskull from the evil Skeletor.
She was eventually given a spin-off, She-Ra: Princess of Power, which premiered in 1985. Although the show was on air for just one year, it garnered a large fan base, and became an important part of popular culture.
Now, more than 30 years since the show aired its last episode, the classic is getting the reboot treatment, and this news has every 80s kid over the moon.
On December 12, it was announced that DreamWorks is working on rebooting She-Ra: Princess of Power.
According to the press release, the new version of the show will be produced by the award-winning author and cartoonist Noelle Stevenson, and will be "a modern take on the ’80s girl-power icon for a new generation of young fans."
"With Stevenson's unique voice at the helm, fans are in store for an epic and timely tale that celebrates female friendship and empowerment, lead by a warrior princess tailor made for today," the release read.
The studio did not reveal any further details about the upcoming remake, but fans are hopeful that the original voice actress Melendy Britt, now 74, will at least make a cameo.
For those wondering when and how you can follow the new adventures of She-Ra as she battles the Evil Horde and Haodak, DreamWorks confirmed that the new series will have a worldwide release on Netflix in 2018.
