12 Songs You Heard At Every Party In The 80s That You're Definitely Still Obsessed With

Next Plateau Records / thecentralbox

Music from the 80s has stood the test of time, and I'm not saying that because I grew up in that decade.

The lyrics were catchy, relatable, and upbeat. They also seemed to have choreography to go with it, and we knew how to dance to them all.

We definitely had our priorities straight. For example, which scenario would do you better for the long term: Receiving a perfect grade on one math test or knowing how to moonwalk for the rest of your life. The answer is intuitive.

There are so many awesome songs that were played at every party in the 80s, but there just isn't enough time in the day to list them all. Also, not every song was loved by everyone. You can't imagine how bummed I was to hear that half of my friends hate the song "Africa" by Toto.

However, there are a handful we can agree on! Here are 12 songs played at every party in the 80s that we're all still obsessed with!

1. "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" by Cyndi Lauper

If kids these days don't know who feminist rocker Cyndi Lauper is, they definitely have heard and jammed to this song. "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" was a huge hit, and for good reason. I listened to this song in my car, in my bedroom, at a party, and sang the song with my friends at karaoke bars. I recently made this my ringtone. That's just how gnarly this song is.

2. "Billie Jean" by Michael Jackson

What's a party without the "King of Pop"? Whether we were good dancers or not, we all attempted to master the moonwalk and the crotch grab.

3. "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" by Whitney Houston

The best part about this song was that the title wasn't gender specific. I didn't have to dance with a guy, I just had to dance with somebody.

4. "It's Raining Men" by The Weather Girls

I love this song, but every time I listen to it I remember my awful dance moves. To be fair, this wasn't a song you could dance to without looking slightly crazy.

5. "It Takes Two" by Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock

The 80s was the golden age of hip-hop and b-boys, which is why the 80s is the best decade ever. I don't know what it was about the 80s, but we were all tempted to bust a move anytime a groovy song came on. The chorus of this song is so infectious!

These next songs will get you dancing, whether you like it or not!

6. "Funky Town" by Lipps, Inc.

If you can listen to this song without having the urge to stand up and get funky, you were not an 80s kid or you lived in a cave.

7. "Push It" by Salt-N-Pepa

I'm sure I damaged my vocal chords screaming this chorus at every party. I also damaged every bone in my body trying to twirl on my head.

8. "Celebration" by Kool & The Gang

You'd think this song would play only at times of celebration, but literally every 80s party was celebrating something, even if it was just life itself. Ah, those were the good ol' days.

9. "Like A Virgin" by Madonna

Your parents probably didn't approve of this jam, but that's just another reason why we're 80s kids. Parents were a little overrated, you know what I mean?

10. "Footloose" by Kenny Loggins

This was my favorite party song because you could dance to it any way you liked. I was quite the imaginative kid, so I always imagined dancing with Patrick Swayze.

11. "Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)" by Eurythmics

I almost broke my neck from vigorously bopping my head to this song so much. Some guys were shy to come on the dance floor, but once this song came on everyone was dancing to their own style.

12. "Modern Love" by David Bowie

Oh, how I miss David Bowie! It's hard knowing that he's not in this world anymore, but I'm so glad he's made some timeless party hits.
