13 Hit Songs That Prove 2005 Was The Worst Year For Music

The 2000s were a super interesting time for popular music. Rap was dominating the charts as the most popular genre in North America, rock got a new shot in the arm thanks to everyone's anger at the Bush administration, and pop just seemed to keep getting bigger than ever.

However, you have to take the good with the bad, and 2005 especially seemed to have a LOT of bad. Just take a look at these 13 songs that were absolutely massive hits.

Gwen Stefani - "Hollaback Girl"

We still don't know what a hollaback girl is over 10 years later, but what we do know is this song is obnoxious and frankly kinda stupid.

50 Cent ft. Olivia - "Candy Shop"

Possibly one of the least attractive songs ever, nobody needs to hear about 50 Cent letting some girl "lick the lollypop."

The Black Eyed Peas - "My Humps"

Between its obnoxious beat, the stupid lyrics and Fergie's annoying voice, if we never hear about Will.i.Am's "Milky milky cocoa puff" again it'll be too soon.

Fall Out Boy - "Sugar, We're Goin' Down"

Fall Out Boy went on to have some pretty great hits, but they made a bad first impression when they first landed on the pop charts with this nonsensical bit of stupidity.

Nickelback - "Photograph"

The internet's most-hated band released one of their most-parodied songs, and while the jokes were funny, this song was anything but amusing.

Trust me, the songs only get worse from here...

Chris Brown - "Run It"

Far from the worst thing Chris Brown would do in the course of his career, he still got off to a bad start by showing us all how obnoxious and grating both his music and personality were.

John Mayer - "Daughters"

From the guy who game us "Your Body Is A Wonderland" comes another fake "sensitive" song for bros to use to try to get into a girl's pants. It was blatant then and it's even worse now.

Eminem - "Ass Like That"

Encore was one of Eminem's biggest missteps (so much so that he took a hiatus for a few years after it came out) and this song was easily one of its worst, being built off stupid voices and pedophilia jokes.

Daniel Powter - "Bad Day"

The song that was in every movie trailer and terrible teen drama at the time, it was pretty much impossible to escape for a good few years.

The Pussycat Dolls - "Don't Cha"

A bunch of models nobody had heard of going on about how much hotter and better they were than our girlfriends, we still can't believe this song actually got huge.

Ciara ft. Missy Elliott - "1,2 Step"

Ciara was one of the worst things to happen to hip-hop in the mid 2000s, and even bringing in bonafide superstar Missy Elliott couldn't save this boring and lifeless song.

Simple Plan - "Welcome To My Life"

Because nothing says "pop hit" like a bunch of guys in their 20s and 30s whining about how their parents don't understand them and never went through what they are right now.

James Blunt - "You're Beautiful"

A hit so grating and overplayed that Blunt himself absolutely hates it. We're inclined to agree.
