The Best TV Theme Songs Of The 80s You Have Forgotten About

TV shows today just don't seem to put the importance on the opening theme song as we did in the previous decades. This is a shame because when I think of my favorite shows of the 80s and 90s, the opening credits bring back a flood of welcomed nostalgia and gets me excited to relive the great episodes.

In honor of the lost art of opening theme songs, here's a list of the top TV themes of one of greatest decades in television history.

Which one will be stuck in your head for the rest of the day?

12. Miami Vice (1984-1989)

This opening theme song was so popular that it actually topped the Billboard Hot 100 Chart.

11. The Smurfs (1981-1989)

Hearing this theme song again brings back a flood of Saturday morning cartoon nostalgia.

10. The Love Boat (1977-1986)

This one is guaranteed to bring you back to the 80s. From the music, to the lyrics to the actors faces in the opening, it was captured the decade perfectly.

9. Family Ties (1982-1989)

I think we can all remember this theme song as clear as day. What a great show!

8. The People's Court (1981-1993)

Yesssss! No list would be complete without mentioning The People's Court! Just even saying the title brings back the memories of many nights watching Judge Wapner dish out his unique brand of justice.

7. Cheers (1982-1993)

I think everyone dreamed of one day going to a place where everybody knew your name, and that was mostly thanks to Cheers. This opening theme song was legendary.

But of course there's more!

6. Growing Pains (1985-1992)

Another family-friendly sitcom we won't soon forget. Growing Pains may not have been the best of the bunch, but it's theme song sure was.

5. Inspector Gadget (1983-1986)

If this doesn't punch you right in the nostalgia, then I don't know what will. I have so many fond memories of watching Inspector Gadget on Saturday mornings that the theme song just brings in waves of happiness!

4. Fraggle Rock (1983-1987)

Now that I have fallen down the rabbit hole of my childhood, I could not forget to mention the entertaining and funny "Muppets" of the 80s. As iconic as the Muppet Show theme was in the 70s, Fraggle Rock took the cake in the 80s.

3. The Facts of Life (1979-1988)

A spinoff of Diff'rent Strokes, this show introduced the iconic 80s characters of Blair, Tootie, Natalie, and Jo. It's theme song also became an icon of the decade.

2. Magnum PI (1980-1988)

You may remember this one playing in the background as your mom swooned over Tom Selleck and his fantastic mustache. This has to be one of the most iconic theme songs of the decade!

1. The Golden Girls (1985-1992)

"Thank you for being a friend." No doubt one of the best TV theme songs of all time. Even after all these years, this still has to be one of the best shows of the 80s!

What was your favorite TV theme of the 80s?
