To make a great movie plot twist, actors, directors, producers, and writers must all come together to construct the perfect combination of intrigue, suspense and drama. The best films take you by surprise and leave you in shock long after the credits roll.

Here are the movie movements we never saw coming:

1. The Sixth Sense (1999)

Plot: Known for it's iconic line, "I see dead people," Sixth Sense depicts a boy who communicates with spirits. He seeks the help of a disheartened child psychologist to get over his fear and help the lost souls.

Twist: The psychologist had no idea he's been dead the entire time.

2. Jacob's Ladder (1990)

Plot: Vietnam War veteran, Jacob Singer - who's mourning his dead child - attempts to discover his past while suffering from a severe case of dissociation through fragmented flashbacks and bizarre hallucinations.

Twist: Singer was bayoneted by a fellow American soldier during the war, eventually passing away from his injuries.

3. Lone Star (1996)

Plot: A sheriff - who had a poor relationship with his father - investigates the murder of one of his predecessors and unearths several secrets in his small town.

Twist: The sheriff's love interest turns out to also be his half-sister.

4. Fight Club (1999)

Plot: An unnamed protagonist and his friend Tyler start a fight club, which eventually becomes an anarchist movement.  

Twist: The narrator and Tyler are the same person.

5. Reservoir Dogs (1992)

Plot: After a simple diamond heist goes wrong, the surviving criminals begin to suspect there is a police informant among one of their own.

Twist: Mr. Orange admits to being an undercover cop.

6. Scream (1996)

Plot: On the anniversary of her mother's murder, a teenage girl and her friends are terrorized by the mysterious killer, "Ghostface."

Twist: The killer is actually two people from the group of friends.

7. Se7en (1995)

Plot: Two detectives search for a serial killer captivated with the seven deadly sins.

Twist: The killer leads the two detectives to a rural location where he says he will reveal the body of his final victims. He presents one of the detectives with his wife's head in a box, out of envy. He tells the detective to shoot him - out of wrath - becoming the final sin.

8. The Usual Suspects (1995)

Plot: One of two survivors of a violent massacre tells a police interrogator the events which led him and his partners to a shootout and fire on a boat.

Twist: The interrogator realizes he let the criminal mastermind go, grasping the survivor was impersonating someone else.

9. Primal Fear (1996)

Plot: A lawyer defends his latest client, alter boy, Aaron Stampler is accused of murdering a Catholic archbishop. The alter boy suffers from multiple personality disorder and blames his alter ego, "Roy" for the killing.

Twist: Stampler doesn't have the disorder and committed the murder in cold blood.

10. The Game (1997)

Plot: After a wealthy banker is given an opportunity to participate in a mysterious game, which dampens his ability to distinguish the difference between the game and his everyday life.

Twist: "The Game" turns out to just be a game, orchestrated by his brother, to prevent the banker from turning out like their father.
