MTV Returns To Its Golden Age With MTV Classic

At the risk of sounding like somebody's grandpa, back in my day MTV was awesome. It had a slate of solid shows, and it actually played music. Shocking, I know. Well those of us who have been mourning MTV's downward spiral into 24/7 reality shows actually now have something to look forward to. MTV has officially announced that VH1 Classic will be rebranded as MTV Classic, a whole channel dedicated to bringing back the best of MTV's 90s and early 2000s programming. Based on the shows they've included so far, MTV Classic is going to be an absolute goldmine of nostalgia.

The channel will launch starting August 1st, which also happens to be the 35th anniversary of the original MTV. Not only are they bringing back some of our favorite shows, but they've also promised that 10 hours a day will be dedicated to playing music (you know, that thing that the M in MTV is supposed to stand for), running from 3:00 am to 1:00 pm.

The first hour of MTV Classic will even give us a flashback to the original first hour of MTV that aired in 1981, which will also be available online via Facebook Live. But that is only the beginning, they're bringing all the nostalgia feels with a lineup that will make 90s kids so totally stoked.

Beavis And Butt-head

Before King of the Hill, Mike Judge gave us Beavis and Butt-head. MTV hasn't aired an episode since 2011, so the return of the lovably crude metal heads is definitely worth getting excited about.

What 90s revival would be complete without the painfully relatable, pizza-loving misanthrope? The so-real-it-hurts look at the high school experience that was a spin-off of Beavis and Butt-head is also making a comeback.

MTV Unplugged

Possibly the greatest gift MTV ever gave us was MTV Unplugged, which let us see the softer, acoustic side of many of our favorite musical acts. While it has been brought back a number of times over the years (most recently in 2014), there's no doubt that its best years and performances were in the 90s, which MTV Classic will let us relive through reruns of the show.

And that's just the beginning. MTV Classic will also be airing Aeon Flux (the animated show, not the awful movie) and Total Request Live, along with more early-2000s fare like Jackass, Cribs, Pimp My Ride, Clone High, Laguna Beach, and more. So if you want to spend what's left of the summer reliving the glory years of your youth, you'll have more than enough to keep you entertained. Check out MTV's teaser for MTV Classic below.
