Here's The Reason Why Your Favorite Disney Princesses Wear Blue

Growing up, almost every young girl's idol was a Disney princess.

All memorable in their own right, the animated role models taught their viewers many lessons, such as the importance of being adventurous, kind, and true to oneself.

From Alice to Belle to Elsa and Jasmine, each princess had a unique situation they had to overcome, and when they prevailed, it gave young girls the encouragement to conquer their worst fears, and have a happily ever after ending too.

When we were younger, it was hard to pick a favorite, as each leading lady was one-of-a-kind with their own personality traits, mannerisms, and of course, song tracks.

But despite their differences, many of the princesses have one thing in common: wearing blue.

It's not a coincidence either, as there is a significant meaning behind the most beloved color.

Since Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs hit the big screens in 1937, Disney movies with the iconic princesses have become a fixture in every child's video collection.

While we've noticed the evil villains are usually decked out in dark and dreary clothing, noticing the color blue on our favorite heroines has always been an afterthought.

Unbeknownst to many, there's also a reason for it.

According to Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the Pantone Colour Institute, blue represents many valued traits, such as calmness, confidence, loyalty, and serenity.

"It's something to look forward to, to see that blue sky," Eiseman  told Allure. "It's dependable. It's reliable. It might cloud up, but we know it's there."

She said while the color has traditionally been associated with boys, dressing the princesses in blue adds "a bit of power to the character."

"It's a very subtle way of saying, 'Yeah, but young women, young girls, can be empowered, too,'" she added.
